Opportunities at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas

High school and college volunteers are an important part of the lifeblood of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. Whether exploring a career in healthcare or fulfilling a desire to help others, our program helps students learn about hospital services in a professional environment.

Volunteer assignments at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas include but are not limited to:

  • Neonatal intensive care unit
  • Mother/baby
  • Pediatrics
  • ICU
  • Telemetry nursing units
  • Pharmacy
  • Cancer center
  • Food services
  • Infection Prevention
  • Medical Staff Office
  • Emergency Department

High School Volunteers

Our high school volunteers must be at least 15 years old or advancing to their sophomore year in high school. Starting in the summer, these students are required to complete at least six of the eight week program and at least 24 hours of volunteer service. After completing the summer program, a high school student has the option to continue volunteering during the school year. The link to the electronic application is available in early March with a limited number of spots available.

College Student Volunteers

College students are offered the flexibility to change their schedules and assignments with the changing school year. Summer applications are available in early March, Fall applications are available in August, and Spring applications are available in December, each with opportunities to match a variety of different interests and fields of study at our Beaumont hospital.

two volunteers standing togetherTo enroll in the Student Volunteer program, applicants must:

  • Complete at least 24 volunteer hours per volunteer session
  • Submit an electronic application, essay, and reference letter. High school students also submit a current report card
  • Undergo a background check
  • Briefly interview with Volunteer Coordinator
  • Attend orientation on Hospital Safety
  • Appropriate Immunizations
  • Receive a mandatory flu shot
  • Complete service specific training
  • Purchase a uniform
