Sleep is as important to the body as eating, but nearly one in every three Americans fails to get a good night’s sleep for various reasons. About 100 million are chronically sleep deprived, and that number is rising due to changing lifestyles and increased family and financial pressures.

However, an estimated 40 million others feel exhausted because they are experiencing a sleep disorder. Chronic sleep disorders can disrupt family life, affect productivity at work, contribute to motor vehicle accidents, and even result in death. Yet about 95 percent of people with sleep disorders go undiagnosed and untreated, simply because they do not realize they have a problem or think that nothing can be done for them.

It’s possible that you’re simply not getting enough sleep at night. However, there’s another possibility –you may be experiencing a sleep disorder. The sleep lab was established to provide comprehensive care to patients who are experiencing sleep problems. Our goal is to help you get a good night’s sleep.

We routinely see patients for a variety of sleep disorders including:

  • Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness

Potential Treatment Options

A simple noninvasive overnight visit for a sleep study can uncover potentially dangerous sleep disorders and can lead to treatment that can change a person’s life. Our facility has private rooms available for sleep studies. A light breakfast will also be provided following each study.

Depending on the sleep issue, treatment options of sleep disorders may include:

  • Bi-PAP

  • Sleep hygiene changes

Common Disorders

A visit to our Sleep Center may help you to understand what’s keeping you from having a good night’s sleep. Our advanced equipment can uncover some common symptoms of sleep disorders you may be experiencing.

Some of the most common sleep issues are:

  • Sleep Apnea – A serious, potentially life-threatening disorder which occurs when the flow of air during breathing decreases or is completely blocked during sleep. It may be accompanied by a lack of oxygen and a disruption of deep sleep. People who have sleep apnea almost always snore heavily
  • Narcolepsy – Although the exact cause is not known, narcolepsy appears to be a disorder of the part of the brain that controls sleep. It is defined by constant sleepiness and a tendency to sleep at inappropriate times
  • Restless Leg – People with restless leg syndrome experience very unpleasant sensations that occur in the legs when they are sitting or lying still, especially at bedtime. The uncomfortable feeling of restless leg syndrome appears most often in the calves of the legs and affects a person’s ability to sleep at night and causes excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Insomnia – Insomnia can mean trouble falling asleep, trouble staying asleep, or sleep that is non-restorative. In about 10 percent of the population, insomnia has become chronic. Since insomnia is a symptom rather than a diagnosis, a careful sleep history and sometimes an overnight sleep study will be required to determine the cause
