Beaumont, TX – June 7th at 10 AM at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas Behavioral Health Center located at 3250 Fannin St, Beaumont, TX 77701 will hold an Opening of the Art and Music Room funded through a grant from the Mamie McFaddin Ward Heritage Foundation ad-ministered by the Wealth and Asset Management Department of Capital One Bank.
The funds were granted to reopen rooms so that patients can receive art and music therapy to help speed their recovery. Each patient has an individualized treatment plan and these therapies can make a real difference for many. In honor of their donation through the Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas Foundation, the Art Therapy Room has been named for the Mamie McFaddin Ward Heritage Foundation. More locations are slated for renovation including the gymnasium, patient rooms and the lobby area. Kim Moncla, Executive Director of the Foundation stated that “donations are being sought from the community for these improvements.”
Baptist is the area’s largest inpatient Behavioral Health Center in our region. Each year Baptist Hospital serves patients from throughout an eight county service area. Patients range in age from teens through geriatrics. Patients admitted to Behavioral Health are experiencing a mental health crisis that requires intensive stabilization and therapy in an inpatient setting.
The need for services is staggering. About one in three adult hospital stays in the United States, with the exception of births, involves a mental or substance-abuse disorder. In Southeast Texas, Baptist Hospital stands as a beacon of hope providing the acute care needed by these patients. Whatever brings patients to their door, be it a chronic mental health issue, a substance abuse is-sue, suicide attempt, or an age related dementia they provide the highest level of care. The hos-pital has made it a priority to increase safety, expand capacity and provide the right psychiatric care to help patients recover and lead a productive life.
