Children’s Mental Health in Beaumont

Treatment Options for Emotional & Behavioral Health

Your child’s mental health is in good hands at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. We are performing sacred work by ensuring little ones and adolescents get the care they need to feel good about themselves and the world around them. With our team-oriented approach to mental well-being, we are looking forward to helping each child develop a healthy identity.

Mental Health by the Numbers

Just like adults, children encounter mental health concerns throughout their life due to certain stimuli and environmental influences. According to the American Psychological Association, there are around 15 million children in the country who are currently dealing with a diagnosed disorder, but only about 7% are receiving the care they need. These disorders can be caused by genetics as well as their environments at home, school, and elsewhere in their community.

Our Children’s Mental Health program seeks to help children deal with issues in their:

  • Family
  • Friend groups
  • School
  • Community
  • Identity

You may have already identified signs your child could be suffering from a mental health disorder. If you are unsure, a good rule of thumb is to pay attention to sudden behavioral or emotional changes.

Signs that your child could be suffering from a mental health disorder include:

  • Behavior problems: While it’s normal for a child to disobey or cause some damage around the house, an excessive amount of disobedience and aggression could indicate a problem, especially if the damage is to people or animals
  • Sleeping trouble: If your child is unable to fall asleep or regular has nightmares, they may be dealing with early signs of depression
  • Lack of appetite: Any noticeable change in appetite could be cause to speak with a therapist. This can also include a worry about weight gain
