Surgical Services at Baptist Orange Hospital

Pre-Admission
Outpatient surgical patients start their journey though an appointment with the pre-admission nurse who will interview and assess the patient pre-surgical testing needs and medical history.

The preadmission interview helps to ensure the patient has appropriate pre-op testing such as labs and x-rays prior to the day of surgery.  By doing this testing early if possible, we may be able to prevent the patient from having unnecessary delay or cancelation due to poor test results or medical history that could prevent them proceeding with their procedure.

Day of Surgery
On the day of surgery or endoscopy, patients will be admitted to the day surgery area, have their procedure, and be discharged from this area.  Our day surgery unit has 8 private rooms, 7 with a private bathroom.  This area is available to service all surgical and endoscopy patients, both outpatient and inpatients.  All patients that are to receive anesthesia are interviewed by an anesthesia provider in this area.  The patients are not responsible for finding their own anesthesia provider.  Our anesthesia department is contracted with the hospital to provide services for any surgical and endoscopy procedure done at this facility.  The anesthesia staff is made up of 3 nurse anesthetist who are supervised by an anesthesiologist.  The anesthesiologists are available 24/7 for all patients needs throughout our hospital.

State-of-the-Art Surgical Procedures
We have the equipment and well trained staff to perform some of the most up to date surgeries.  A large number of surgeries done today are done with the use of a small scope rather than an open incision.  These procedures known as laparoscopic are for abdominal surgeries such as gallbladder, appendix, colon resection, hernia repairs, hysterectomy, and other gynecological procedures.

Other scopes are also used at our facility for orthopedic procedures such as knee, shoulder, ankle scopes; carpal tunnel repair as well as sinus surgery.  During these less invasive procedures with the use of a scope through tiny incisions has improved the patients’ recovery time, reduced hospital stay, and reduced some risks of having an open incision.  Since these procedures are less invasive, patients can go home the same day depending on each patient’s progress.
